The Kardashian Curse is a famous conspiracy theory within professional sports. What is it exactly, and is there any truth to it? Let’s investigate.
The Kardashian Curse, as defined by the Daily Beast,
is a rare affliction that seems to affect the majority of men in the Kardashian inner circle […] the men have unraveled, whether that manifests in career setbacks, rehab, or Republicanism.
The Curse is especially infamous within the sports community, as many blame major losses or athletic flops on Kardashian influence. Here, I’ll break down the most notable athlete that fell victim to the Kardashian curse for each sister.
Kourtney:
NONE! Kourtney is a rare, uncontroversial queen. There haven’t even been rumors of her dating an athlete! She did, however, allegedly hook up with Justin Bieber, and now he looks like this, so the curse might be real:
Kim — Kris Humphries
Kim and Kris famously shared a 72-day marriage before she dumped him, citing a lack of romantic and emotional connection. Heartbroken, Kris filed a lawsuit against Kim claiming she went along with the nuptials for profit, believing the “dream wedding” would increase viewership of their reality show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and thus boost Kim’s viability as a sponsor for high-end products. This only hurt Kris in the end, as Kim quickly shacked up with now-husband Kanye West, and Kris went on to flop out of the NBA, being traded between several teams and ultimately being one of the final roster cuts from the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2017-2018 season.
Khloé — Lamar Odom
A quick marriage after only one month of dating, Khloé and Lamar were a fan favorite relationship, even securing their own reality show on the E! Network. However, Lamar’s inability to stay sober and faithful brought an end to the romance in 2013. Lamar continued to struggle with drugs, enduring a near-death overdose in 2015 that almost led to a reunion as Khloé supported Lamar through the scary experience. Lamar’s basketball career has since fizzled, and Khloé now has a baby, True, with Cleveland Cavaliers player Tristan Thompson.
Kendall — Blake Griffin
This star-crossed relationship didn’t last long, but Blake definitely felt the impact of the curse. Since the onset of dating Kendall, Blake suffered numerous injuries that affected his play, getting traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Detroit Pistons during the 2017-2018 season. Not long after, things had cooled down between the two and, according to People Magazine, they avoided each other at a “Coachella party” — which apparently is neither a Coachella-themed party nor a party at the actual music festival, but I digress. At least Blake has his comedy career to fall back on should things heat up again.
Kylie:
Like Kourtney, Kylie has avoided a relationship with any athletes, opting for rappers instead. She now has a baby, Stormi, with rapper Travis Scott. #ASTROWORLD !!
A number of other rappers have endured the curse, but come back on top — just look at James Harden, 2017-2018 MVP. He dated Khloé briefly and flopped, but bounced back to lead the Dallas Mavericks to an amazing season.
