Who are you?
My name is Bizzy Emerson and I am a University of Missouri student majoring in Communication with an emphasis in Mass Media. A Chicago (suburbs) native, you’ll most often find me cheering for the Cubs and Bulls (with the occasional bandwagon support of the Celtics — my dad is from Boston). My favorite stadium food is beer and my favorite athlete is Jimmy Butler. Post-graduation I aspire to work in PR or HR, but my specialties are in digital media and social media — you will always see me live-tweeting an awards show (Justice for Teddy Perkins). My favorite celebrity is Ariana Grande. Thanks for checking out my blog, I hope you enjoy it! Always remember, WWLJD? What Would LeBron James Do?
Why SWTS?
The inspiration for this blog came out of two of my main interests: sports and celebrities. Many consumers of both fail to see how frequently these worlds intersect. Athletes walk red carpets, actors sit on the sidelines, and that just scratches the surface of how these realms intertwine. Through SWTS, I’m curating stories and observations on the crossover between celebrity and sport in an attempt to address the similarities between these two industries.
Who’s your audience?
Of course, my main demographic is young people like me — I’m 22. I feel that my generation (millennials, if that’s your thing) is most in tune with how these worlds collide. We take note of Drake’s constant Raptors rap references, we root for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, and we actually care when Fergie bombs the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game. That being said, we’re not the only people who enjoy these things, and thus this blog is truly for all sports fans and celebrity lovers.
