For the love of the game

Welcome to Sports with the Stars! In this post, I’ll introduce you to myself and my vision for this blog. I’m looking forward to getting started!

Sports with the Stars is a blog examining the intersection between sports and celebrity. Many athletes have catapulted to celebrity status, some achieving A-list recognition simply for being talented at their craft — LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Serena Williams all fit this description. Likewise, more traditional celebrities often engage with sports in some shape or form: dating an athlete, showing team loyalty, or referencing an iconic sports moment in their music or social media posts. For example, Esquire noted Drake’s comparison between sports and hip hop on his song “Thank Me Now,” in which he claims,

I swear sports and music are so synonymous / Cause we want to be them, and they want to be us.

My name is Bizzy Emerson, and I’m a student at the University of Missouri. I’ve been interested in celebrities and fame my entire life — I would use my mom’s old copies of People Magazine as coloring books as a child. My interest in sports has strengthened since coming to college, primarily due to the frequent crossover of celebrities into the athletic realm, and vice versa. My favorite celebrities include Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Timothée Chalamet, and my favorite athletes include LeBron James, Serena Williams, and Jimmy Butler.

I’m looking forward to developing this blog and engaging with readers to find out who you’d like to see or hear more of! I’d love this blog to be collaborative by nature and for readers to drive the content I post. I tend to be more basketball/baseball inclined, so I’d love reader feedback on how to include all kinds of sports.

Let the games begin!
